Thioacetamide-induced cataract with invasive proliferation of the lens epithelium in rainbow trout.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cataracts developed in 90% of rainbow trout maintained on a thioacetamide diet for prolonged periods of time. The most striking feature in the histology of these lenses was a massive proliferation of the lens epithelium and its transforma tion to a pleomorphic cell mass which sometimes replaced a great portion of the anterior lens cortex. The profuse invasion of the epithelial cells, their disorganization, and the presence of forms similar to Darier cells and epithelial pearls suggest a tumorous growth pattern. The relation of the epithelial proliferation to fiber damage is not clear nor is the role of the carcinogenic properties of thio acetamide in the development of the lens pathology.

Lens metabolomic profiling as a tool to understand cataractogenesis in Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout reared at optimum and high temperature
Periods of high or fluctuating seawater temperatures result in several physiological challenges for farmed salmonids, including an increased prevalence and severity of cataracts. The aim of the present study was to compare cataractogenesis in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) reared at two temperatures, and investigate whether temperature influences lens m...
متن کاملTreatment of ophidism-induced bilateral canine cataract by extracapsular lens extraction and intraocular lens implantation
The aim of this study was to report a new cause of cataract, namely snake bite induced cataract in a dog. A 3-year-old male mongrel dog was referred to our clinic for the assessment of cataract in both eyes. The dog was bitten by a snake nearly 4 months ago. A 40 dioptre acrylic lens with 13 mm haptics was implanted into the lens capsule. In the left eye, posterior synechia was detected in the ...
متن کاملEffect of Aqueous Extract of Embelica officinalis on Selenite Induced Cataract in Rats
Cataract is clouding of the eye lens that reduces the amount of incoming light and results in deteriorating vision. Blindness is thought to reach 75 million by 2020. Of these, unoperated cataract may be expected to account for at least 35 million. Thus, the burden of cataract is increasing remorselessly. Embelica officinalis is reported to have a very good antioxidant property and thus we hypot...

متن کاملThe Effect of Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn. Seed Extract (Silymarin) on Galactose Induced Cataract Formation in Rats
Background: Increased oxygen free radical and reduced glutathione level in the eye lens are important risk factor for cataract formation. The antioxidative property and increasing cellular and extra cellular glutathione level have been reported by several herbal medicines including silymarin. Objective: In present interventional study Silybum marianum L. seed extract (silymarin) was tested a...
